Anxiety is a beast.
I’ve written before about how I never really experienced it until having children, and how my experience of postpartum anxiety really made me sympathetic to people who struggle with it.
This past week on We Gotta Talk I interviewed the co-founder of Rewrite and Rise, Cody Isabel, who gave us some amazing advice on breaking bad patterns; how to spot a narcissist; what the “Belief Wheel” is and how to manifest positivity; and more.
But today, I want to share with you his method for getting through anxiety, which he calls the M.E.W.S. Method. Let’s dive in on what it is, and how it might help you!
We go into great detail on the podcast—so definitely give it a listen!—but Cody says the effectiveness of this method is explained by the undeniable connection between body and brain.
And when you move your body, you can alter your mood, which is part of the reason why this method works.
“Your behaviors change your response anxiety more than anything,” Cody says. So let’s dive into the M.E.W.S. Method, and how it works.
Box breathing is breathing in for a count of four, then breathing out for a count of four, then repeating. Cody says any type of deep, intentional breathing will work for this last step, so do the method that you prefer.
