This won’t read as breaking news to most parents, but sometimes kids hate foods that are good for them.
That doesn’t change the fact that they need those foods, it just makes it crazy difficult to get them into their diets. (Ask any parent who tries to bribe their kid, “Two more pieces of broccoli and then you can be done!” Not fun.)
Thankfully, there are ways to sneak good foods into what they’ll actually want to eat.
This recipe is my own creation that has now officially worked for us for seven years and three kids..
1 banana
1 cup frozen organic mixed berries (I use a mix of organic raspberries, strawberries, blueberries)
2 cups of 2% fat plain Greek yogurt (I prefer Fage)
2 cups unflavored kefir
1 heaping handful of organic spinach
1 tablespoon organic raw honey
Depending on how thick/thin you like your smoothies, you may want to add a cup of milk (give or take) in there to thin out the mixture.
Recipe makes 3 large glasses. Cut in half for smaller serving size.
To ease blending, put frozen berries, banana and kefir into blender first and liquefy.
Add spinach, yogurt and milk, and blend again.
Add honey to taste, and blend once more.
Pour and enjoy!
Psst! You got them to eat spinach, kefir (brimming with probiotics), raw honey and some organic berries. Not bad!
