Without a doubt, the one supplement that has made the biggest difference in re-growing hair lost during my postpartum period is collagen.
I had what I affectionately refer to as “cul de sacs” on my hair line—two small rounded spots at my temples where I lost hair right after the baby—and after using collagen for a few months, I saw some great re-growth.
Since the first thing people ask is how to take powdered collagen without tasting the sometimes-icky taste, I came up with a great recipe for some morning coffee that incorporates Vital Proteins, my collagen of choice.
Collagen is a protein already abundant in the body which not only naturally comprises parts of your body such as your muscles and skin, but whose presence helps keep said body parts functioning optimally.
Since our body produces less collagen as we age, many people choose to supplement with collagen to help maintain and improve health.
Pretty much this post right here!
I had already been using Vital Proteins for months when I came across that post from holistic doctor Christian Gonzalez, and it validated my choice. I really value Dr. G’s opinion on the safest supplements, and when I saw that he also recommends this brand for its purity and its performance, I was doubly reassured.
Definitely follow him for more information and quick tips on the best supplements and deeper dives into all things health!
Worth noting: This is not a vegan collagen, as it is derived from cows. As Vital Proteins says on their site, it’s sourced from bovine hides from cows raised in Brazil. They also have a marine collagen supplement if that’s not your thing.
So we’re not going to do something every morning if it’s too much of a hassle, right? That’s why you only need a minute, and a few things, to make this amazing-tasting coffee that’s packed with nutritional benefit.
Start with 1 cup of brewed coffee. (We have a Nespresso machine so I brew one cup of Stormio.)
Add 1 scoop of Vital Proteins Collagen Powder.
Add 2 scoops KOS Organic Inulin (more on inunlin in another post coming soon!)
Add a splash of creamer. I use Dunkin Extra Extra. And by a splash, I mean literally two drops! (I like to taste coffee, and I don’t like anything approaching sweet.)
Use a milk frother to blend well (collagen powder can get clumpy), and enjoy!
