Maskne! Can’t live with it, can’t live without … wait! … Never mind. Wrong quote.
Maskne flat out stinks. I mean, as if it weren’t enough to be dealing with a pandemic, Mercury retrograde and the type of schooling schedule that would make even a buddhist have a nervous breakdown; now we have to add maskne to the list. The insult-to-injury ratio is just SO HIGH, I actually—to steal a phrase from Kids These Days—just can’t.
And yet here we are!… breaking out like we’re 15 again. You know, except without the amazing metabolism and lack of societal expectations that come along with being a teenager.
My personal philosophy for treating acne has been to go heavy on the products with salicylic acid (this toner and this moisturizer have been my saviors); but what if you want to prevent maskne in the first place? Well Momlando is here to save us all.
And better yet, chances are you have this product in your home right now!
Ready for this? Dana’s answer to preventing maskne is… diaper cream!
That’s right; the very same thing you use on your baby’s bottom can also protect your own skin, and that’s due to it’s main ingredient—zinc oxide.
Long known as a soothing ingredient that can help soothe skin and protect its barrier function, it’s working here in very much the same way—creating a barrier between the mask and your skin that doesn’t allow any pesky bacteria to get into your pores and cause acne.
First things first: This hack may not work for everyone. If you’re someone whose skin reacts poorly to physical sunblocks (I personally am a huge fan, finding them much gentler on my skin than chemical sunscreens), then this may not be for you.
If you’re up for it and, like many people these days, feel like, What the hell do I have to lose? The world is ending and I’m breaking out anyway!!! [just kidding. mostly.], then let’s have Dana show us how to do it!
Don’t take my word for it; take Dana’s! She says it’s kept her skin clear for days, even when worn under her mask outside during the Florida fall. (That’s code speak for HELLISHLY HOT.)
As you can see, she layers it under her mask, and says that even through the sweat, it holds up.
So you be the judge! Try it out for yourself and let me know if it works!
And definitely check out Momlando for some amazing tips on what’s good to do around Orlando for families, and other great content! I just love Dana!
