What a week it’s been! The concept of minimalism, or living with less, has always been appealing to me, but after talking to this week’s amazing lineup of guests, I’m more inspired than ever to take on the clutter in my life.
On that note, here are a few things I learned this week about living with less.
And just a reminder, the experts and guests I featured this week are: Cassidy Nasello, certified coach and KonMari consultant; Jasmine Dustin, model and content creator; and Tomoka Brabham, KonMari consultant.
Certified coach and KonMari consultant Cassidy Nasello said this on the show yesterday, which really resonated with me:
“A lot of memories are attached to our things, [and] I think what it comes down to is: Do I like this item? Does it serve me now in my current life?
[It’s about] shedding all of that guilt and all the feelings that are attached to the things that aren’t serving you.
It can be a very cathartic process, [but] it doesn’t mean it doesn’t get emotional. I’ve wiped many tears in many closets, but it is rewarding when you can live authentically and honestly with what really does serve you.”
This is a theme that came up again and again in my talk with Cassidy, as well as all of my work with Tomoka (check out all of my “Closet Kondo” articles here), who helped me minimize and organize my closet.
When it comes to using the KonMari Method, it’s not about getting rid of things just for the sake of purging, but with the goal of leaving space and energy for only what (and who!) you truly love.
The mindset of keeping only what serves us can be translated not only to items like clothing, but also to relationships, work commitments and more.
I know I’ll now be asking myself before every decision I make, Will this truly bring me joy or value?
My IG Live with Jasmine Dustin has already sparked some serious joy—starting with the pair of combat boots I just bought after she showed us how cute they look with so many outfits!
I’ll continue to clear out one item for every new item I bring in, and I’m hoping that sticks. But Jasmine showed us that timeless pieces can be combined in so many different ways, that it truly is possible to be stylish without constantly going shopping. Check out all of her recommendations here.
Hope you all enjoyed this week’s content! You know I’m always into hearing your thoughts on interesting topics to cover next… DM me your thoughts!
