This week on WGT it was all about the power of feminine energy, with founder of The Feminine Freedom, Barbara von Schmeling.
Diving into this topic was freeing in the sense that it allowed me to pause and pay attention to the part of my essence that is so often forced down due to sheer busyness. With three young kids, organization and structure (typically masculine energetic traits, per Barbara’s explanation) typically guide my days. That can squeeze out time I’d otherwise like to spend recharging, pausing and creating—traditionally feminine energetic traits.
That’s why I’m so excited to share this post, as well as this week’s episode, with you. It’s full of information to help you not only better understand your energetic makeup, but also tips to slow down and reconnect with the feminine energy in your spirit.
Did you ever think about the power of femininity? And I’m not talking about gender—feminine energy can, and does, exist in people who identify as both female and male. And as Barbara says during our chat, we each have a natural, unique ratio of masculine and feminine energy that is innate to our own spirit.
Barbara describes some of the strengths of feminine energy as creativity, intuition, detail, healing, openness and connection. Think about an amazing conversation or time spent with your best girlfriend; chances are at least one of those traditionally feminine characteristics popped into the exchange.
So here’s the first thing I learned from my chat with Barbara—that there is power in these innately feminine traits.
Whereas masculine energy thrives on organization, deliberate action, drive and commitment, Barbara says things like connection, intuition and creativity fall under the feminine energy category.
And when I think about it, it’s those things that are present in the relationships I most value in my life. So going forward, I will embrace these traits, knowing they’re the foundation of the most important relationships in my life.
…as in, you and your partner match best when your energies complement, rather than match, each other.
Think about it: two north poles of a magnet repel each other. Why? Because they’re so alike.
With relationships, as with magnets the polarity—or the opposition—is what draws one element, or one person, to the other, another huge thing I learned in this week’s episode.
And how do these energies work in synergy? Barbara says, “[The masculine energy] provides this safety container so … the feminine can just blossom and flow.” I love the analogy she used—that the masculine energy is the river bed, and the feminine energy is the water that flows. Each needs each other; put together, they work.
Now this isn’t to say we need to embody only the feminine energy if we are women. Rather, it’s to say that knowing how to tap into our feminine energy when we want to get back to our natural balance, it’s there waiting for us.
Barbara says, “The beauty is learning how to go from one to the other one. … Let’s say my core is feminine, I learned to access my masculine and come back to my feminine.”

When I asked Barbara how to quickly reconnect to our feminine energy, she put it simply: “Take some time and create.”
This can be, she says, spending time cooking a meal, relaxing your body, meditating or even finding a physical motion, like dancing, that allows your body full expression.
“You need to allow your body to move to the integrity of your body. … So when I teach movement, it can be it can be considered dancing, but I’m really teaching you how to move to what makes your body alive. That’s what it is.”
