A while back I first told you about Methodology, a gourmet meal service plan that delivers fresh prepared, gourmet-style dishes right to your front door.
Transparency first: I’ve been working with Methodology for going on two years. I got the chance to try the service after interviewing their founder, Julie, and since then I’ve both bought and been gifted their Signature Reset programs.
I wanted to answer some FAQs about Methodology because I still get tons of questions, and I’ve learned lots more about the company over the past couple years. That being said, let’s start with the question I get most frequently…
To be blunt, Methodology is not inexpensive. But in this case, you do truly get what you pay for, and in my opinion Methodology is an investment service that ticks all the boxes–convenience; nutritious, whole foods; extras like apple cider vinegar shots and matcha packets; and most importantly a preset and predetermined calorie, protein, fiber, etc. count.
While there are other meal programs that will give you food to prepare on your own at a lower price, it does not compare in my opinion to this service which literally presents fully-cooked, ready-to-heat gourmet meals to your doorstep.
So basically you’re paying for convenience; and for healthy, often organic and gourmet prepared and garnished meals. You’re not just getting a box of ingredients to throw together; you’re getting high quality, “crafted” dishes that are ready to eat.
Let’s get to some other frequently asked questions! These answers are straight from Methodology, and are super helpful if you’re considering trying one of their Resets or plans.
From Methodology:
Intermittent Fasting: We get a lot of questions about intermittent fasting during the Program. Intermittent fasting for longer windows isn’t suitable for everyone, so if you feel better with an eating window that’s longer, feel free to eat for up to 12 hours of your day if needed. That will not negatively impact your results. What’s most important is that you do not eat too close to bedtime as this negatively impacts your digestion and sleep. Aim to finish your dinners at least 2.5 hours before you plan to fall asleep.
From Methodology:
Daily Calories: Your Program is designed to include an average number of calories a day. Depending on your weight loss, weight maintenance, or weight gain goals, feel free to adapt your Program if you need to. For example, if you find you can’t finish all of your food relative to what you normally eat, that’s okay. Just make sure you prioritize finishing your protein and vegetables. If you find you need to add more calories, that’s also okay. Make sure most of the calories you add come from whole and unprocessed foods and always include some lean protein.
From Methodology:
Caffeine: If you can’t have caffeine, feel free to skip the matcha. It won’t negatively impact your Program results. If you don’t enjoy drinking matcha, feel free to swap it for coffee or the drink of your choice. Matcha does contain caffeine, so we advise you to have your matcha and caffeine before 12 PM each day. After that switch to decaf coffee and herbal teas. This will vastly improve your sleep and the outcome of your experience.
From Methodology:
Apple cider vinegar shrubs: These superfood shrubs give you a dose of live and active probiotics with each meal. You must dilute your shrubs with a cup of water to prevent damaging the enamel on your teeth and to make the drink more palatable as it was designed to be mixed with water.
From Methodology:
What if I need to eat out during my Program? If you need to eat additional meals on top of the Program because you’re hungry or need to eat out for social reasons, these are some guidelines that you may follow. Aim to eat meals that always include lean protein (from a sustainable vegan, meat, or seafood source) and vegetables. Avoid highly processed, vegan fake meats. The meals should not include any gluten, wheat, canola oil, or dairy, including butter. It’s up to you whether or not you’d like to also include a gluten-free starch, such as rice, oats, potatoes, or sweet potatoes. Ideally, the meal would exclude refined sugar, but we understand that when eating out it’s very difficult to find meals that don’t include refined sugar. If eating out, ask that your meal be prepared without butter and with olive oil instead. A great option when eating out is to order a salad with a balsamic vinaigrette and add a protein; order a protein and 1-2 veggie/salad sides or appetizers; or order sashimi and rolls that don’t include any sugary or fatty sauces (note that sushi rice includes soy sauce, and soy sauce has small amounts of gluten, which is okay unless you’re intolerant to gluten or are celiac).
From Methodology:
How long does my box stay cold? The ice packs have been tested to maintain the cold temperature of your meals for up to 72 hours, even in the event of potential delivery delays, but we recommend that you refrigerate the food upon receipt.
What needs refrigeration? All the meals, Apple Cider Vinegar Shrubs, and Protein Truffles need to be refrigerated. The Organic Ceremonial Matcha Sachets can be stored in your pantry.
Are all of the meals fully cooked? Yes, all our meals are ready to eat and can be reheated in a microwave or on a stove top in less than 5 minutes. You can even enjoy them cold if you’d like.
Is the food packaging microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe? The bento bowls are microwave-safe and dishwasher-safe, but their lids are NOT. The glass jars are NOT microwave-safe; the food should be transferred to a microwave-safe bowl or plate before heating.
Can I reuse the containers? Yes, the bento bowls and glass jars are fully reusable and recyclable.
I do tons more reviews and talk more health, beauty and fashion over on Instagram. See you there!
