I understand some people prefer to track calories or count macros, but that’s never been for me. If anything, I guess I practice what many people call intuitive eating. Following my body’s cues for what it wants and when. Also, not denying myself anything, rather just keeping a practice of moderation when it comes to foods that aren’t nutrient dense (aka sweets).
All that being said, I’ve never purchased any prepared meals or cleanses. To me, it felt deprivation-adjacent.
But about a month and a half ago I got the opportunity to try a new prepared meal service, Methodology. My whole perspective on “meal plans” changed.
Because I was going to interview its founder, Julie Nguyen, I thought it was important to test the service before interviewing her.
Today I’m reviewing the Methodology meal service. Also, giving you a discount code so you can try it for yourself!
Methodology bills itself as “gourmet meal prep for busy professionals.” But you don’t have to be dashing off to the office everyday to benefit from this service.
Each 5-day Reset is packed with 10 meals that you can eat for lunch and dinner, as well as snacks and a selection of apple cider vinegar blends to be mixed with water that boost gut health, and five small sleeves (with three inside each) of small cocoa-flavored treats that serve as a sweet treat or dessert. It’s an incredible value, I think, for
Finally, you select a start date.
The total for one week when I priced this with the above selections was $429.00. To me, that’s an amazing price for not having to worry at all about five days’ worth of meals and snacks. Budget is unique to everyone, but I find this to be competitively priced based on other well-known meal plans or “detoxes” I’ve seen, which can often start at $500 but only include half the food. (Lots of them have you drinking a shake for one meal.)
Of course I asked the Methodology team to set us up with a discount code so I could share the love! So, with the code WEGOTTATALK on their website, or simply by clicking this link, you’ll get 10% off your first week of meals! So that would bring the price down some. It brought my order total down to $399.55.
Bear in mind that the menu will change weekly, so what I got in my box might not be what you get. But here are some highlights of the meals I loved the most.
Overall, I found the food to be incredibly tasty, with blends of spices and flavors that were very unique in every meal. There is a restaurant quality to each one, meaning that there are unique ingredients in each one. For example, the Honey Miso Black Cod was paired with a Wakame seaweed salad, steamed koboocha squash and a delicious citrus sesame sauce. I did not think that cod that was shipped to me in a box could be this fresh and tasty, but it was delicious–the most insane flavor profile. Needless to say, this was one of my favorites.
Another top pick of mine was the Spanish paella with shrimp and greens, and I wish I had taken a picture of the lid because I can’t remember the exact ingredients. The yellow rice was flavored so delicately but amazingly, and it came in a glass jar that you just have to heat before eating. I love this, as I don’t prefer to heat in plastic. My husband loved the grass-fed beef taco salad with cilantro lime dressing and salsa.
Other meals include unique blends like the Chioggia Beet Poke Bowl, with nori furikake brown rice, edamame, wakame seaweed salad, Yuzu pickles, sesame seeds and ponzu sauce. Another vegan meal option is the Moroccan tempeh and lentil Stew with turmeric cauliflower, cilantro A rice, baby spinach, crunchy chickpeas, and hemp seeds, flavored with mint, parsley, cilantro and oregano.
A quick note about packaging: Some of the meals come in recycled(and gorgeously styled) mint green plastic containers, with a tight-snapping lid. While they say you can heat your meals in these, I always transferred those meals to glass and heated them that way. The rest of the meals came in tall glass jars, which you can heat as-is. And almost every dish has fresh greens on it that you’ll have to remove before heating, so you don’t end up with wilted greens.
Did you know that drinking apple cider before meals can help regulate blood sugar levels? I think it was so clever of Methodology to take that science into account by including their five ACV “boosters” in their 5-day reset. These are meant to be mixed with water, and I drank them either before meals or on their own.
To me, a thousand times yes. The amount of time and money saved by not having to individually buy all of the high-quality ingredients, combined with the convenience and taste, make this an absolute “Worth It” for me. I’m already planning on getting another 5-day Reset as a treat to myself in the next month.
This is worth mentioning one more time. Click this link or simply enter code WEGOTTATALK at checkout to get 10% off your 5-day reset or other meal plan!
Let me know if you end up trying. I don’t think you’ll regret this one!
