Filed squarely under the category of “Things I Said I’d Never Do” is joining a tennis team. And yet here I am, officially in my first season. I’d taken lessons and done clinics for a while, but this was a huge step for me for many reasons, not the least of which is that I don’t self-identify as a competitive person. And in my opinion, a prerequisite for joining a real-deal “team” should be at least a shred of one. Then, there’s the terror I feel at the idea of a small projectile flying toward my body (not minor). And finally, I do not possess the level of emotional self-regulation generally required of tennis players. That is to say, I swear loudly and often when I mess up (I’m working on it!).

But here I am, a few weeks into my first season on a tennis team.

What I’m finding refreshing is not only my newly-discovered competitive spirit (it turns out I get angry when I suck), but also the endless amount of cute tennis clothes that I now have an official reason to buy.

Add to that, the fact that tennis style is now apparently a certified Thing, which means that there are more and more brands giving us the cutest options for both on and off the court. I put a few ideas together so you can also find your competitive spirit and get out there.
