The biggest complaint about liquid liner is that it’s so easy to not get right, whether it’s a smudge or a squiggly line, or getting it everywhere except your lash line. And the best part—it’s super simple. Let’s get to it!

The Only Hack You Need to Apply Black Liquid Eyeliner

Step 1: Lay the liner tip parallel to the lash line. This is key!

This is the most important step, because you’re securing the liner against the base of your lashes to give you a smooth line. Your lash line becomes the guide for the liner brush.

Step 2: Starting at the midpoint of the eyelid, or a little more toward the inner corner, drag outward, toward the outer corner of the eye.

This will make a precise, thin line.

Step 3: Pull your eyelid taut, and, using the same method (keeping the liner tip parallel to the lash line), use the lightest touch to line from the inner corner to the mid-line of the eyelid.

You’re closing the line here and putting liner on the part of your lid that you didn’t, the first time you lined.

Step 4: Flip the liner pencil over (see image), and do the same thing on the other eye.

Step 5: Use the end of a Q-tip moistened with micellar water to clean up any mistakes.

This allows you to precisely fix any mistakes.
