Let’s recap the week!
Three Things on Change—something I actually, truly dread , but this week learned to not be so scared of.
Neuroscientist Dr. Gabija Toleikyte says if you want to make lasting change, it’s all about starting small and understanding WHY you want it.
Dr. Gabija says it helps to list as many details as you can about how your life will change for the better when you make those changes. Her book, Why the F*ck Can’t I Change?! outlines in detail how to do this.
…and that’s why change is so hard.
Our brains evolved to help protect our energy so we could focus on survival… And just because these days survival isn’t as pressing a daily need, it doesn’t mean that programming changes. So be kind to yourself and know that making change is hard because it’s literally going against programming.
Your mammalian (i.e. primitive) brain reacts to an outside stressor, your reaction can be intense. Dr. Gabija says to take 15 minutes if you can, step away, and chill. You’ll come back ready to make a more rational decision.
Check out my interview with activist and spokesperson for the Sunrise Movement, Lily Gardner. We talk all about climate change, and how to act now to stop it. Watch it here!
A personal take on I always have such a hard time with it as a mom.
Watch or listen to my interview with neuroscientist Dr. Gabija Toleikyte about the human brain, why change is hard, and how to really make change when you’re ready.
