As you know, it was all about Human Design this week, and when I tell you our guest Randi Lee blew my mind with her reading, it’s an understatement.
Definitely give the podcast episode a listen if you can, but if you can’t, here’s a few quick takeaways so you can get familiar with the concept of Human Design.
Specifically, it’s a combination of various philosophies like astrology, I Ching, and the chakras that helps you to understand who you are intrinsically.
The short story is kinda hokey, but hey, bigger belief systems have been born in less fishy circumstances so… here goes!
A former advertising executive and media expert named Ra Uru Hu entered a meditative state and came out with all the insights for this new way to explore who we truly are, from the inside out. Check out the textbook on human design here.
While it’s easy to blow this off as a 100 on a scale of 1 to 10 of Woo Woo-ness, I will say that after having my profile read by human design expert Randi Lee, I do buy into what this philosophy can tell us about who we are. You might even call me a convert.
…as in 88 days before you’re born. As Randi explained to me, 88 days before birth is when, according to the Human Design philosophy, your “unconscious definition” crystallizes.
You have to listen to how Randi explains it in our podcast interview, but basically this is a moment in prenatal development where some traits are “locked in,” so to speak; therefore it can hold key information about who you are intrinsically.
This philosophy isn’t meant to tell you what jobs you’re most fit for, or what people you’re most compatible with, but rather to give you a deep understanding of the forces that govern you individually, so that you can then make decisions on what, and whom, to bring into your sphere.
I’m truly a “follow your gut” person. (By the way, this resonated so much with me. My intuition is frighteningly on-point nearly every time, and I’ve used it as my most powerful guide when it came time to step away from my career in television news and move into another chapter of my life.
Wow—this one really hit me. I’ve always felt that I trigger people in some way. In fact, I recall having told my friends and husband on dozens of occasions this exact thing.
But here’s where I was confused: I’m incredibly open with who I am, my personal story and thoughts, and I’m a true extrovert. So how can someone like me have a closed aura and also be an incredibly open person?
Randi explained it this way: Splenic manifestors are so focused on the process of funneling energy and purpose from the universe, that this constant cycle can be off-putting to others who aren’t in the same space. It’s like I’m a factory that never shuts down, and the sound can really bother the neighbors.
Hearing this explanation of why I have this effect on others really helped me to release the negative associations I had made between myself and others; I no longer blamed myself as the cause of strange interactions with people. As it turns out, this is just how I was made, and I now know that I can simultaneously pursue my purpose of informing and connecting without feeling like I am lacking in other ways.
I took these words directly from this amazing article on Manifestors by Amy Lee, and boy oh boy is this me to a T!
What does this mean? It means that I, and my fellow Manifestors, are not easily influenced, and in fact can have a long track record of going against the grain or not needing to test boundaries in the same way that other types can.
The example that immediately comes to mind for me is my lack of desire to push the boundaries when I was growing up. I didn’t experiment with anything that was out of my comfort zone until I was ready, and it’s not because I thought I was too good or above what others were doing; it was simply because I have always been keenly aware of my own sense of self and boundaries that I had no need to test where I stood on anything, ever.
So no, I don’t make the most dynamic party person. Ha! I mean, not then at least. (Teenagers who don’t need to test boundaries aren’t the hit of the parties, if you know what I mean.) But this deep knowledge of who I am that I’ve had since childhood has also been my anchor and kept me connected to myself, and able to pour energy into my interests and passions outside of myself.
While there are plenty of websites that can give you your own human design chart at no charge, I highly suggest following up with a professional who can break your chart down (they’re surprisingly complex!) and tell you what exactly you’re working with. That way, you can get personalized advice on how to use your natural born traits to maximize your life.
