I’m all about the supplements.
Where a good diet and lifestyle doesn’t cut it, vitamins and supplements can step in to fill in the gaps. And during the winter as well as coronavirus season, it’s more important than ever for me to find a way to keep my family’s vitamin supply coming. Enter Vitamin and Me!
I’ve been trying out their matching and delivery service for a couple months now, so I wanted to write a review and share a promo code that will make getting well-vetted, trusted vitamins delivered right to your door super easy.
Let’s dig in!
Think of Vitamin + Me as a Match.com for supplements; that’s the simplest way to put it! Founded by a Johns Hopkins-educated nutritionist and public health expert, their goal is to help improve the health of women everywhere.
They don’t manufacture their own brand of vitamins, but they do vet all available brands and choose the ones their scientifically-trained team thinks will best fit your needs.
It’s as simple as going onto their website and taking a quiz! You can communicate with their team if you have any questions, and then adjust your delivery schedule.
I did my quiz and was matched up with three supplements that weren’t already in my routine—the Klaire Labs Omega-3 Minis, the Trace Minerals Complete Food Multi, and a lysine supplement.
I do have a doctor-prescribed vitamin protocol already, but didn’t have all the vitamins I needed when I started with V+Me. This was a great way to fill in those holes!
Here’s something I personally love about the V+Me service: Their process inherently addresses the issue that we all have different health needs.
Founder Jessica Houston is a Johns Hopkins-educated nutritionist and public health expert. She didn’t set out to start a vitamin brand, but something else that was missing—a company that utilized the already-great supplements on the market, but would pair them specifically with the people who need them.
As a mom herself, Jessica knows how important it is to get women access to high-quality supplements, in pregnancy and beyond. And she and her team believe, when it comes to vitamins, one size does not fit all. That’s why Vitamin and Me is not a vitamin manufacturer. Their team understands that every body is different, and therefore, our supplements should be too!
And that’s where their quiz comes in; it helps users cut through what they don’t need, and only get matched with what they do.
Like I said, I already had a vitamin routine in place when I started with V+Me, but I was missing some big things—namely, a good multivitamin.
I’m now using the Trace Minerals Complete Food Multi, and here are some thoughts so far:
The pills are larger, so if you have a hard time swallowing larger capsules, that’s a good thing to be aware of.
There is no aftertaste.
In addition to the basic Vitamins A (133% RDA per serving; serving is 4 capsules), C (222%), and D3 (25%), this formula also includes a vegetable, green and sea vegetable blend, a fruit and berry blend, and a mushroom blend (with cordyceps, reishi and other extracts). So you’re getting all the traditional vitamins as well as a blend of whole-food and adaptogens. That’s something I really like about this formula, given that I’m usually supplementing separately for those things.
Here are my thoughts on the Klaire Labs Omega-3 Mini Supplement:
As the name indicates, these are on the smaller side, so it’s easy to take a few at a time.
This formula is free of milk/casein, eggs, shellfish, tree nuts, peanuts, gluten, corn and yeast. There is also no artificial coloring, flavoring or preservatives.
Each batch is independently tested for mercury, pesticides and PCBs.
They are “naturally” flavored with lemon, though I didn’t notice this at all; there’s no “fish burp” situation going on with these either. Huge plus!
And finally, I’m also on the Now Brands Double Strength L-Lysine, which is said to support collagen synthesis and healthy immune function. Just a couple thoughts here:
These pills are HUGE. Like, big. Suggested dosage is 1-2 daily.
Lysine is an amino acid that has to be obtained through diet or supplementation, so while I haven’t seen any benefits yet, per se, I feel good knowing that this is now in my routine.
I’m so psyched to have Vitamin + Me as a sponsor on my talk show and podcast, and Jessica and her team were so generous to give all of you a discount code to get 30% off your first order of vitamins! That’s a huge deal.
Thanks to the V+Me team for keeping me and my family healthy during this crazy season! I’m confident you all will love this personalized approach to your supplementation routine.
